The skin is the body’s largest organ and that means we have to pay constant & careful attention to it, as you likely already know. Something that people overlook frequently though when taking care of their skin is the consistent use of a moisturizer. Daily moisturizing is vital for healthy skin, yet some people disregard it! Today, I wanted to take a deep dive into moisturizing your skin, what moisturizers to use, and why it is important. Let’s do it!
What Moisturizer to Use
Regularly using lotion and moisturizer should be a part of any good skin care routine. Some moisturizers are better than others though.
You really need to pick a lotion that has plenty of vitamins like the ones below and also have an SPF of 15 to protect your skin during the day. Make sure to use lotions that also are oil free, non-comedogenic, and allergy tested. Here is that quick list of key vitamins to make sure your moisturizer has:
- Vitamin A and Vitamin B
- Increases firmness and build moisture levels
- Anti-Oxidant Vitamins C and E
- Helps protect new skin and fight skin damage
- SPF 15 sunscreens
- Helps prevent premature lines and wrinkles and sun damage throughout the day
If these aren’t included, ensure to pick up products and serums that do have them and incorporate them into your skin regime.
When to Moisturize
The most important times to use moisturizer are after a bath, shower, shave, face wash, or exfoliation. This should be twice a day max. All of these actions strip your skin of essential oils and moisturizing nutrients, so it is important to replenish those promptly.
Why Moisturize?
Moisturizing Helps Skin Stay Young
Your skin is sensitive to environmental changes and also is ever-changing in itself. Your skin sheds skin cells on a daily basis and is repairing itself 24/7, so make sure to ‘feed’ it properly with a good moisturizer to allow the younger skin cells to develop better and give it proper nutrients and vitamins for optimal skin health. Also, the massaging effect when applying a moisturizer that is used when applying lotion helps stimulate blood circulation and new cell generation.
Conceals Other Skin Blemishes
Moisturizing can also conceal skin blemishes. That is because moisturizing tends to make the skin have a slight sheen, and those with any tint or self-tanner even out different skin tones.

If moisturizer doesn’t solve the problem, it could be a sign of an underlying health issue, so talk with myself or your family doctor about unresolved dry skin.
