Oily skin is one of the most common ‘problems or complaints when it comes to skincare from individuals I see on a weekly basis.
No matter what they try to do and what products they use, their skin comes out looking glossy, shiny, and oily.
Today, I wanted to take a few minutes to give you the lowdown on the best ways to take care of your oily skin!
Finding a Cleanser
Finding a good oil cleaner is extremely important with oily skin. It’s important to find a good oil cleanser, sulfate-free cleanser, toner, brightening serum, and light moisturizer and weave those right into your skin care routine. Cleansing oils are nice after removing your makeup as well for you ladies since they moisturize your skin properly, and never leave that dry and tight feeling after washing that other cleansers may do to oily skin.
With the wrong cleansers in your routine, your skin could actually be overcompensating for hard acidic and sulfate-filled ingredients in the cleaner that further promotes oil build up. Sulfates (which again many regular cleansers include) when they actually come in contact with your skin will dry your skin out and thus activate your glands more, making your skin produce more oil!
After cleaning your skin with the right cleanser, using a toner that has ingredients to balance your skin’s oil production and PH will help your skin look great too.
Making sure you have the right cleaner in your routine is a big key!
Incorporating a Serum
Oily skin can often cause other issues like an uneven skin tone. To keep your complexion smooth and even, adding a serum to your routine that contains either fruit acids or lactic acids is key. These acids gently smoothen out roughness in the skin as time goes on. Serums are important as withholding moisture can lead to overproduction of oil in sebaceous glands, thus causing oily skin complexion. Serums can hydrate your skin as well as control the amount of oil produced.
Another thing to consider when buying a serum is to look for brightening serums that also have anti-aging properties. This gives you a real bang for your buck that helps combat oily skin problems.
Adding a Moisturizer
Adding a moisturizer should be one of the final applications before SPF. Moisturizer helps to protect your skin from all the products you used before. Look for a light and dimethicone-free moisturizer if you have oily skin. Dimethicone is a silicone that gives your skincare products that slippery, luxurious feeling, but doesn’t actually serve any skin-benefiting purpose. Actually, it can clog up your pores if used in excess.
