WHAT IS BROAD SPECTRUM SUNSCREEN AND WHY USE IT?

Summer is basically here! That means more time in the sun! Before you head outside, there are a few things you need to remember. Overexposure to the sun can cause some serious problems, but with the right protection you are all set to diminish this problem. Sunscreen is something a lot of people overlook and just forget, but it is crucial for skin protection as the sun can be very harmful to your cells. You probably see varying levels of SPF on your products at home or at the store, but what does that mean? SPF stands for ‘Sun Protection Factor’. Now, all sunscreens aren’t equal. The sun actually emmitt two types of harmful rays to our skin: UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays cause damage to our skin like burning and cell death, while UVB is the leading cause of cancerous formation from sun exposure. There is a certain type of sunscreen I want to focus on today that actually protects against BOTH of these harmful rays, not just one like regular sunscreen. This sunscreen is called Broad Spectrum Sunscreen!

Overview of Broad Spectrum Sunscreen

Broad Spectrum Sunscreen comes in many different forms that absorb or reflect UV radiation so it does not affect the skin and protects against sunburn. This reduces the onset of wrinkles, age spots, and sagging skin. Blocking UltraViolet A and UltraViolet B rays means this sunscreen is working twice as hard as others! Broad Spectrum Sunscreen is actually the type that is recommended by the Cancer Society of Canada and the American Cancer Society to have the best protection abilities. Something you need to keep in mind as well is the SPF number on the bottle. Different numbers of SPF have different protection. The higher the SPF rating is, the more it blocks. We recommend SPF 40 and above for your face, and 30 for your body. This will block about 97% of UVB rays. No sunscreen will protect your skin entirely, but make sure to choose your sunscreen wisely, stay out of direct sunlight for extreme periods of time, and keep reapplying! You should reapply sunscreen every 90 minutes or as directed on the label. I know summer is coming up (basically here) and everyone is excited, but you always have to remember to take care of your precious skin! Even when it’s overcast Your skin is a reflection of inner health, and here at SasiClinic we want to make sure it is radiant, young, and healthy!
