The world has come to it…
With so many tik tok and Instagrammers posting at-home face masks made of crazy elements, it is time to settle the chaos.
Today, plain and simple, I wanted to tell you the 5 things you should NEVER (matter who tells you to) put on your skin under any condition. This is going to be a fun one. Let’s dive right into it!
Glue
Yep, we are starting off with a wild one. This sets the tone for this blog doesn’t it?
Well, the new ‘rage’ has been to make homemade masks out of glue. Unfortunately, this home hack won’t clean out your pores. It may just leave you with irritated skin or broken blood vessels. Worse yet, you could accidentally strip away the surface layer of your skin.
Body Moisturizer
If you run out of your facial moisturizer, you may be tempted to substitute it with your body lotion.
Don’t!
Resist!
Most lotions for the body are actually thicker, and thus more likely to clog your pores. They have different ingredients and also may have fragrances or other ingredients that can cause an allergic reaction on the thinner, more delicate skin on your face.
If the label says ‘fragrance free’ and ‘non-comedogenic’, you may be ok… But still avoid it if possible.
Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is loaded with vitamin C, which can brighten skin and smooth fine lines. That may tempt you, but lemon juice is acidic and can irritate your face. You also might end up with actually a nasty rash from phytophotodermatitis, a skin reaction that happens if you expose chemicals in certain plants and fruits to sunlight or otherUV rays. This can potentially damage the protective layer of the skin and strip it of essential nutrients at the same time. Avoid, avoid, avoid! Opt for our EverActive 15% Vit C serum instead.
Deodorant Sticks
Summer is here, and ya sweat can be very annoying. If beads of sweat are always rolling down your face, swiping an antiperspirant over your brows, cheeks, and elsewhere may seem like an interesting solution. Some people even have praised this ‘clever’ technique.
But, avoid this!
Deodorant sticks can actually clog pores and make you break out. The elements in it are very rough and thick. The skin on your face is also sensitive, and you might get a nasty allergic reaction.
Hydrogen Peroxide
This one is more popular and not as weird as the ‘glue’ example we started out with. It’s a popular pimple solution because it literally kills bacteria living on your face. But hydrogen peroxide can really damage your own skin cells, including fibroblasts that help make new tissue and heal wounds. Also avoid it for cleaning cuts and scrapes. Use proper soap and water instead. Hydrogen peroxide might irritate your already fragile skin and damage it further.
